Tighten the packing nut below the handle. If leaks continue or it's stiff, replacing with a new stop valve (compression/push-fit or soldered) is best.

  • Stop (globe) valves: multi-turn, good for throttling but slow.
  • Gate valves: also multi-turn, used for full shut-off, but large and slower - ball valves are often preferred.
